yet more drinking...
Friday night was spent out drinking again - but this time there were no snakes in sight! I was taken out by the translation company I do some work for. We went to this little coffee house in Nishi-ogikubo - looked l average but I met some amazing people there - a man who subtitles German films, whose wife did the Japanese translation of Sophie's World, an interior designer and the grandson of a famous Japanese artist. My friend's, who works at the translation company, boss told us his (abridged) version of him sailing around Europe. After a few bottles of atsukan I think I accepted an invitation to go sailing with him (hopefully not to some far-flung destination - the Boy would become very angry I suspect). Still invitations made under the influence should quickly be forgotten.
It was surprising to discover this place though. Not much happens in Nishi-ogikubo. The lady who runs it seemed pretty nice towards the end when I was chatting and mingling with everyone. I don't think too many gaijin wander into the place. I don't mind being a token celebrity sometimes - at least I don't have to pay for my own sake!
Tonight we are heading off to our help-drummer's gig. When not smacking the skins for marshmallow spike, he plays in a rockabilly band known as the Dynamites (well this week at least - they change their band name more than their brand of hair wax). They are playing in Roppongi of all places - uuurrrgh.
Call me a gaijin snob if you want but I hate Roppongi. It makes my skin crawl to walk down the streets. Bad memories of when I first arrived and was told it was a cool place to hang out stab my brain...yuck. Still it's Sunday night and I'll be hanging out with my Japanese rockabilly posse so I shouldn't have any hassles...those quiffs are sharp!
