(Sp?)

I'm having a spelling hell week for some reason. Luckily most of my buddies who I chat with online are pretty forgiving about the mangled sentences that sometimes appear on their screens. And to think that kuri and I spent ages laughing about a resume she was correcting and that person's spelling and grammar, through the medium of our own corrupted comments.

I never learned to touch type. And I must admit that I'm not so keen to study it. I don't use most of my fingers to type but look at the keyboard most of the time. This is just the fastest way for me. I'm fast - but sloppy.

It's not as if I even spell difficult words wrong - which has led me to believe that it's my fingers that do the spelling now - not my brain. My brain is thinking about what to write or some design or when is the Boy going to cook dinner rather than the actual spelling out of words.

My fingers have two words that they like to spell incorrectly - intersting and becuase. This is not just a one time kinda thing - they spell these words incorrectly everytime! And they are so common! Sometimes I have to check the correct spelling of "because" since I see it incorrectly spelled so often!

And dontcha hate it when that happens. When you are just left staring at a word which you think is correct - but wait...it doesn't look quite right...is that really how it's spelled?...*check online dictionary*...hmmm it's correct, but it sure is funny lookin'...

My fingers also remember my passwords for me. It takes a lot of re-training when I do the ol' mass-password change thing on occasion (ah another word I always mess up!)...I can't actually recall what most of my passwords are now...if I'm not typing them.

One thing that pisses me off on message boards are grammar nazis. You know - the ones who point out an incorrectly spelled word, or some comment on the structure of the sentence in someone else's flippant comment that they quickly typed out and then posted. Sometimes these kind of threads just go on and on...for what reason? Do you seem stupid if you spell one thing wrong? Is pointing it out making you prove your cleverness? It's just tiresome...

On the other hand articles and web sites should not have spelling errors. That's why spell check functions were invented. (Please note that I don't usually use one when I'm dribbling Cerebral Soup.) Fan sites are the worst for this. Just because it's not a professional site is no excuse for sloppy work. As for the design of most fan sites...weeeeell that's a rant for another day...

The most mixed up words are: their/there and your/you're. I actually don't mix them up for some reason. Does my brain cut in at these crucial moments? Or are my fingers more clever than I give them credit for?

added flavour

Thiers probably a good reasson why your fingers shouldnt ba allowed to do the wlaking on the keyboard, and tha tis precisely because they dont each have thier individual brains! I wish my studnets had individual brains instead fo the group one they seem to be sharing this evening! I find myself often typing bery instead of very, which is pretty funny when you consider where we live! But mostly i put the spaces in the wrong places, and hit the goddamn fucking change to kanji key all the time, which makes it all look like this when i next raise my eyes up tot he screen; ドンt用は手てゃt!

My fingers are also doing the typing, and not through touch. My father-in-law pointed out to me that I don't use my pinkies when I type. I hold them up like I was daintily drinking tea. Still, I manage a good 50 wpm until my fingers stumble over becasue (very d*mn time!).

Nyah...you know how my spelling is. So we're both on equal levels.

I usually have trouble with touch typing as one hand seems to move faster than the other and I have all the right letters, just not in in the right order.. or the space in thew rong place.. I used to have spell catcher that was great for emails as it automatically corrected this.. doesn't seem to work on os x?? hhmm..
