Small Compensation
Although I may have one of the crappiest views in Tokyo, and my downstairs neighbour makes Saddam look like a fun guy, I do live near one the rare Natural Lawsons. Apparently there are only about 10 of them in Tokyo. In the cut-throat world of conbinis (convenience stores) in Nishi-Ogikubo, trying to attract customers is a fierce game. Hence our Natural Lawsons...
What's different between a normal Lawsons and a Natural Lawsons? Er well the decor for a start. Whereas a normal conbini is awash in a flourescent glow, white formica a-plenty, the Natural Lawsons has gone for a more "cottage" feel, with slightly dimmed lighting and wood.
As far as products go - I really can't see the difference from normal conbinis to be completely honest. The bento section should - as always - be approached with caution, and treated only as emergency rations. They do have quite a range of yoghurts and a couple of different salads - and actual pieces of fruit. Not much to get excited about seeing as there is a rather well-stocked fruit and veg shop across the road, but then if you are desperate for a banana at 3am Natural Lawsons could be your saviour. They also have quite a range of actual bakery products. And some rather exotic chip varieties and a well-stocked chocolate shelf. Remember that "natural" does not equal "healthy".
However I usually only pop into the Natural Lawsons because they sell alcohol. Pictured is tonight's dinner...but I forgot to get cheese and crackers...This is not just your usual wine however - apparently it's organic. We'll see if organic wine causes less of a hangover tomorrow morning shall we?
