In Hon-Atsugi some of the street lights are powered by a combination of wind and solar power. I haven't seen this elsewhere in Japan. I could only find 5 of them though so the energy crisis is hardly on it's way to being solved. It's a start though.

They should require those on all the vending machines. I remember reading somewhere that all the vending machines in Japan combined consume wattage equivalent to one nuclear power plant's output. Keep crankin' it out, Fukui-ken! We're countin' on ya!
