Burn baby burn

Last night Terri came over to cook dinner for me and chain me to my chair to make a web site for her. Her i-mac is a little sick though and somehow the cable was damaged and we spent quite a while in contortionistic positions trying to get it to connect just enough to charge the battery. The cable, as you can see, didn't like us doing that very much and decided to catch fire. But only a little.

Reflecting now though it scares me that the first thing I did was grab the digital camera - not something useful, such as say a fire extinguisher. Luckily nothing caught fire and her puter is ok.

Burning plastic cable smells really yucky though.

It also got me thinking - what would I save if my apartment was on fire? (Apart from the Boy of course). Tragically I realize that it would be my computer. There's no turning back now - my friends are right - I have become a geek.

What would you save if your place was on fire?

added flavour

The computer and the Zous. Losing either would be tragic.

I just fried two of those damn \9,000 ibook yo-yos in the same month in the same spectacular fashion. I had to go downtown to Sofmap on emergency to get an aftermarket adapter (\5,900).

Hey, Nils, I'm so glad I'm not the only one. got a lecture when I got back (from the resident Mac guru) about being more careful with the equipment...sigh. not sure what else I can do other than not traveling with the darn thing. but then my very used ibook battery only lasts an hour or so...(got it used to begin with at one of those Shinjuku shops, and it shows).

gotta go make more money, so I can at least overhaul this one (or ideally get a 12" aluminum: yummmm!)

Not very original but my box of photos and my camera. And my iBook. It would be silly not to!

I forgot to answer the question. I actually have practical experience in this very situation in my hometown, although it was not MY house. Albums went first, and that would be my move here. After those, most of our wedding stuff is in one place, so I could scoop it up into a basket.

Hello there,

My digital camera, strangely enough. Maybe the external harddrive as well, with all my pics on.

I like the word 'puter'; does that tie in with 'putrid' if the designing goes wrong? ;-)

BTW, how can I get one of these nice comment thingies sorted? I make my own sites, but use .php rather than .cgi. Any suggestions?

Good question. I'd grab the kid, the computer, and photo albums.

Hmmm.... could I really carry all that??

Okay, just the kid. (And the computer stuffed down the back of my pants for 'protection').

Hi JO - yes it does indeed tie-in with putrid if the design goes wrong (^^)

This blog is powered by Movable Type, which comes with the comments neatly packed into it. I'm sure that there is a php solution lurking out there somewhere for you...
