A Family Outing

On Saturday we all hopped into the car and took the lovely scenic ocean route to Oppama to visit Grandfather's grave.

It was my first time to be involved in this yearly pilgrimage, which I felt a bit awkward about as I had never met the man when he was alive. Still I was formerly introduced and did a bit of ritual cleaning and helped put his favourite things on top of the little stand under which you burn incense to send it up to him wherever he may be.

The interesting part was hearing J-mum and J-auntie talking about him, and as the offerings were whisky, peanuts and ciggies so he sounds as if he was a bit of a ratbag.

On the way back we somehow got stuck in the carpark. This was the wonderful view we experienced for about 20 minutes waiting for an attendant to let us out.

Of course J-mum and J-auntie talk constantly so they weren't bored, but this scene got boring after about gee 30 seconds...

It made me think about though how much we really on computers now, and how when things hiccup - as they inevitably do - what kind of position it leaves you in. There was no other way out of that carpark except past that darn barrier which was controlled by the sensors. Which shut down.

As geeky as I have become - sometimes it's nice to just be in a place where there are no computers. No flashing lights. And no error messages.
